New Zealand Reaction to the Vietnam War
Many New Zealanders criticised the New Zealand Government for supporting US government in the Vietnam War by supplying 3,500 New Zealanders to help US in the Vietnam War. Even though the government did not want New Zealand to be involve,d because they were pressured by the US governement, they sent military to Vietnam War to assist the US. The government was accused for doing what they were told to do simply by the US government even though the New Zealand did not want New Zealanders to be involved.
After the release of the Vietnam War's progress through television and newspapers, New Zealand was exposed to the information of the use of vicious chemicals and brutual murder of the innocent civilians. More and more local protestors went against the New Zealand's participation in the Vietnam War, mainly due to the weapons and tactics being used to murder innocent Vietnamese. Most anti-Vietnam war organisations obejcted the excessive US bombing on the civilians and organised public protests in major cities between 1967 and 1971. The New Zealand anti-war movement aimed to pull the New Zealand out of the Vietnam war because they did not wish to be involved with the US soldiers atrocities they are committing nor did they wanted to support the US soldier's atrocities.
