My Lai Massacre
My Lai Massacre was one of the most infamous events of the Vietnam War. My Lai Massacre took place on 16th March 1968.
My Lai was a small village of home to approximately 750 Vietnamese. The US troops arrived on the 16th March 1968 and were expecting to find Vietcongs (VC) in the My Lai. They fired at the Vietnamese civilians regardless of their age or gender. US soldiers kidnapped little girls and women and then raped them. They also tortured by cutting the throats of the little children, and mutilated bodies before shooting them if they were still alive. The US troops in My Lai met no resistance. Hundreds of dead bodies were left on the dead quiet streets after the US troops left. Over the period of short four hours, US soldiers ruthlessly slaughtered over 500 civilians. The official memorial in the village of My Lai lists 504 killed, "182 women, of whom 17 were pregnant, and 173 children, of whom 56 were of infant age. Sixty of the men were over 60 years old..." The horrific atrocities is still known as the darkest time during the Vietnam War.
I had prayed to God that this thing was fiction."
